Job Description

At Biji-biji, we have our ME.REKA Makerspace in Publika, KL and our own creative building facility, BB FAB!, that is located in a factory in Klang, where we build our signature art installations, creative builds and any other sustainable or upcycled creations.

We are looking for a passionate intern to inventively and creatively assist our building team (Fab x Tech) on site. The main type of builds that you would be involved with are client orders in art installations, creative builds or other custom design solutions or builds or events. At Biji-biji, we are committed to sustainability so we try to use as many reclaimed materials as we can, and otherwise we buy from sustainable sources.

Your role will be to assist Fab x Tech team in ensuring the production of our orders is done in an efficient manner. Fab x Tech will be working closely with our Sales team which consists of architects, designers and sales (based in ME.REKA Makerspace) to  execute the design briefs into the outcome of sustainable production.

Roles & Responsibilities (not limited to):
  • Assist our building team (Fabrication x Technology) to build our signature art installations, creative builds and any other sustainable or upcycled creations
  • Ensuring the production of our orders is done in an efficient manner
  • Interest in building, preferably with furniture or custom builds / installations. You will be working with wood & metal
  • This position requires occasional lifting and some physical fitness (suitable for both men & women)
  • Willing to work with power tools and other fabrication methods such as waterjet (training provided)
  • All our installations need to be constructed in sound manner in line with local health and safety legislations, so need to be a good team player and follow instruction carefully

Job Requirements

  • Candidate must possess background or interest in Engineering of Civil, Mechanical, Metal Fabrication / Tool & Die / Welding, Mechatronic / Electromechanical or equivalent.
  • Able to work to deadlines and be under pressure
  • Attention to detail and able to communicate with others and work in cross-functional teams
  • Be enthusiastic, creative, curious and positive
  • Willing to learn
